Our Story

A Practice Built Around Families

Legasi Adil was established in Kuala Lumpur by practitioners who had spent years observing how estate and inheritance matters were so often handled with unnecessary urgency or in terms that left families more confused than they began. The founding intention was straightforward: to offer a different experience.

The name Legasi Adil — meaning a fair legacy in Malay — reflects what we believe inheritance work is ultimately about. Not procedure for its own sake, but the careful, equitable resolution of a person's affairs so that those left behind can move forward with clarity.

We serve individuals and families across the Klang Valley and beyond, attending to succession planning for those who wish to arrange matters in advance, and to estate administration for those supporting a household through a period of loss. In either case, we work at your pace and in plain language.

What We Stand For

Our Mission & Values

Equitable Practice

We approach every engagement with fairness — to all parties involved, not merely the person who engaged us. This shapes how we advise, how we communicate, and how we act on your behalf.

Compassionate Steadiness

Inheritance matters arrive at moments of loss. We believe that a practitioner's steadiness is itself a form of care — something to lean on when the world feels unsettled.

Plain Communication

Legal language can obscure as much as it reveals. We commit to plain, clear communication at every step, so that you always understand where things stand and what comes next.

Strict Confidentiality

Family affairs are personal. We treat all information shared with us with the utmost discretion, in accordance with our professional obligations and Malaysian privacy law.

Inheritance Law in Malaysia — What Families Should Know

Estate and succession matters in Malaysia are shaped by a dual legal framework. Civil law applies to non-Muslim estates under the Probate and Administration Act 1959 and the Distribution Act 1958. Muslim estates are governed by Syariah principles and the relevant Syariah enactments of each state. When an estate involves beneficiaries across both, careful navigation of the applicable rules is essential.

Succession planning — the arrangement of one's affairs during one's lifetime — offers families the opportunity to set out their wishes clearly, reducing the potential for dispute and easing the burden on those who are left to administer the estate. At Legasi Adil, we support individuals in understanding their options and, when they are ready, in formalising the arrangements they have chosen.

For families attending to an estate after a bereavement, the process typically involves applying for a grant of representation from the High Court or using the Small Estates Distribution mechanism for qualifying estates, gathering and valuing the assets of the deceased, settling any outstanding obligations, and distributing what remains to the beneficiaries. Each of these stages has its own requirements, and having considered legal support can make the difference between a process that prolongs distress and one that helps a family find resolution.
